I know!  You’d think they’d be satisfied after getting the free upgrade to a state of slightly less underperformance.

Still, I understand where you’re coming from.  I once sold a car with only two tires on it to a guy who couldn’t fully check out his purchase in advance.  I couldn’t believe how ungrateful he was when I finally sent him the third tire.

What you were asking about was the database refresh, which is just something you are just going to have to live with as it is part of the player (for now if not forever). If this makes the player less than useable for you then I am sorry but you will probably need to return it for something else, and that makes me a little sad for you. I would suggest you do as the rest of us did and find a work around that suits you.

You can playback while charging.  Buy an AC to USB adapter.  Plug your cable into it.

You cant play back while USB connected.

Thank you.  While I’m not happy about having to lay out added cash for the “luxury” of playback while charging, at least now I know it’s possible.

there is a little work around if you are good with a little piece of scotch tape  all you need to do is cut a small piece of scotch tape just big enough to cover the center 2 pins of the USB connector (the side that connects to the computer) the center 2 pins are used for data and if they are covered the player will charge but it will not connect to the computer. i have a few different sansas that use the same cable so i have one set up for this and one for data transfer but it is pretty easy to remove and replace the tape if you only have one cable.

Hey, that’s a great idea, and like you, I also have a spare cable that could be dedicated solely to this purpose.  Thanks!

Folks, you really don’t have to fiddle about with sticky stuff.  Just don’t push the USB plug all the way into the socket.  I’ve been doing this since I got my Fuze, and it works perfectly.  The power pins on the USB plug are longer than the data pins.  They make contact first.

Push the plug in until it starts charging, and if you decide you want to connect to add/remove music, push it the rest of the way in.

I appreciate all the value added with the firmware updates.  However from the beginning, the Fuze was touted as supporting SDHC microSD cards.  It was announced that the SDHC cards would be available up to 32GB.  Thus an 8GB player would be able to be expanded up to 40GB.  Currently 128Kps is the defacto “standard” when memory companies advertise their cards.  Thus a 16GB card supports 4000 songs, and a 32GB card supports 8000 songs.

So when with a 8GB Fuze is outfitted with a 32GB card, then the datbase should, by normal SD card industry calculations, support 10000 tracks.

Now, I can understand if for some reason 8000 can’t be expanded past it’s current limit (which is 20% less than what one would assume for a 40GB device).

All some of us are are asking for is a way around the limit.  We are willing to accept some loss of functionality, such a genre sort, artist sort, etc…  But as long as the device can read the entire card, then there’s no reason the player can’t just navigate directly through the file structure.

Maybe I don’t understand why this isn’t possible.

I’m not complaining.  However, I bought the player with the prospect of expanding it fully and having ALL my music on a single flash based device.  I love the device, but I don’t really like the fact that even though the unit can store all my music, it currently has no means of addressing all of it.

If this is corrected by the time the 32GB cards become available then no foul.  But at least now with 8000 songs, I can fully utilize a 16GB card.  And yes, my 16GB is on order from Amazon for only 46 bucks.

It was never my understanding that 8000 was the max. It was just the amount for this update (Double the previous limit). But like I said that was my understanding. And 32 gig cards arent even on the market yet. I heard they should be out before the end of the year, and at the current rate there should be another firmware by then too. So perhaps by the time the 32 hits maybe you will be able to fill it up.

Do I have to format my microsd card as well in order to get the 8000 file limit?  As it is, I’m planning on taking out the card, updating the firmware, formatting my player, and then replacing the memory card.

Will this give me the benefit of a higher file limit and more importantly - larger playlist limit?

No need to reformat the uSD card as the players database is internal.

Hi all,

I’ve been reading through several threads here, and I was hoping someone could clarify things for me. I want to get a new micro SD card for my Sansa Fuze. I have the 2GB Fuze with a 4GB card right now. I would like to get the 16 GB card. Will the Fuze see only 8000 songs, or 8000 separate files (such as songs + podcasts + video files, etc.)?

If there’s an issue I’ll just get the 8GB card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

the fuze itself in the library will only see the songs you put on the fuze, if u go to the sd card on your fuze it will see the rest of the songs

The song limit is for songs entered into the song database. You can have more than that in total files.

The limit might be less than 8,000 songs if you use long song names, long tags, heavy nesting of files, etc. There is a limited amount of space on the player for the song database, which needs to hold the filepaths for all the songs.
